Food Entrepreneurship for Women Empowerment


Department of Food Science and Technology Government College Women University Faisalabad organized a one-day training workshop on ???Food Entrepreneurship for Women Empowerment??? under the umbrella of the Commercialisation Wing in collaboration with PKNC NIFSAT University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Prof. Dr. Ayesha Sameen, the chief organizer of the event, welcomed the guests and speakers and introduced the rationale of the event. The guest speakers of the training workshop were Dr. Kamran Sharif, Associate Professor at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and Sajid Iqbal Sandhu, CEO of Green Circle Pakistan. Dr. Kamran Sharif discussed various issues related to food technology, food safety, and quality management. He talked about process-based fortification of foods especially wheat, rice, processed foods (like kheer, noodles, VitaRice, and puffed rice), and composite flour technology as a field of flourishing businesses for young entrepreneurs. The second speaker of the day Mr. Sajid Iqbal Sandhu talked about kitchen gardening as a profitable local business. Five other speakers also discussed their research domains with the students of the women university regarding food development. Their names included Ms. Tabana Naz, Ms. Fareeha Shahid, Ms. Maira Abdul Razzak, Ms. Mehreen Abbas, and Mr. Arham Rauf. The workshop aimed to inform the participants about ways to improve their mental and physical health through suitable food habits and boost confidence among young women to opt for food development as a successful business for them. The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by Dr. Tanvir Qasim Director Coordination PHEC, Prof. Dr. Saima Akram, Chairperson Department of Mathematics, Ms. Rizwana Tanvir Randhawa Controller of Examination, Dr. Asma Aziz Director Student Affairs, Amara Javed Add???l Director Press Media & Publication, all faculty members of the Department of Food Science and Technology and the students of the department.
